CONCERNED PMC CUSTOMERS Please rest assured that we still have PMC in stock in Australia. Based on current purchasing trends, we should have our most popular PMC types in stock for at least the next 3-6 months. We still have Aura 22k, PMC Aqua and PMC Sterling in stock.
Looking ahead, the future of metal clay remains very bright! We have recently re-introduced an old, trusted friend - Art Clay Silver. We plan on offering other varieties of silver and base metal clays later this year! Please keep watching this space.
PMC or PRECIOUS METAL CLAY was developed in the early 1990s in Japan by metallurgist Masaki Morikawa. PMC materials consist of microscopic particles of pure silver or fine gold powder and a water-soluble, non-toxic, organic binder that burns off during firing. Success was first achieved by Masaki Morikawa with gold and later duplicated, with silver. The original formula of PMC fired at 900 °C for 2 hours and shrinkage after firing was 30%. Over the past 28 years amazing progress has been made with PMC strength, shrinkage and flexibility.
2024 PMC OPTIONS.
PMC3™ and PMC Flex™ are all .999 fine silver metal clays with shrinkage rates of 10-15%. PMC3™ and PMC Flex™can be fired using a hand held butane torch, a gas stove top or in a temperature controlled kiln.
PMC Flex™ offers a much longer working or open time compared to other types of metal clay. It is loved by PMC teachers and recommended for students and beginners.
PMC3™ is our most popular .999 silver clay. PMC3™ is also available in Paste and Syringe forms. PMC3™ paste and syringe can be used with PMC3™ PMC+ Paper and PMC Flex™
PMC+™ is available in Sheet/Paper form which can be worked/folded like paper.
OneFire Sterling PMC™ is very strong and has a silver purity of 96%. It can legally be hallmarked as .925 sterling. OneFire Sterling PMC™ also benefits from the same great working features as PMC Flex which allow a much longer open or working time compared to other types of metal clay. It does requires kiln firing but on an open shelf, without any activated carbon. OneFire Sterling PMC™ cannot be torch fired.
PMC Sterling™ clay has more than twice the strength of fine silver PMC and is ideal for more delicate designs and for pieces that just have to have the added strength, like rings. Because of the copper content in PMC Sterling™, firing is a two-step process. Step One is an open-shelf firing and Step Two requires PMC Sterling™ to be embedded in activated carbon and fired again. PMC Sterling™ cannot be torch fired.
Aura 22K is a gold PMC paste solution (containing 91.6% pure gold and 8.4% pure silver) that can be painted on to accent or embellish fine or sterling silver designs.
Instructions are included with all PMC products.
