Sterling Silver "Inverted Heart" Gallery Wire, Hard (as rolled)
This intricate sterling silver gallery wire (15.24cm or 6" length) features an open, filigree look and is ideal for creating custom bezels and for adding decorative elements to a wide variety of jewellery designs. The wire features a hard (as rolled) temper but is delicate and should be handled with care. Hard wire is significantly work-hardened and although it does not bend readily, it holds its shape after forming. Bear in mind that hardness is changeable by annealing or heat-hardening and is relative among metal types. Each temper will feel and handle differently from one metal to another and the harder the metal is, the brighter the finish will be.
It has been noted by metal clay artists that Sterling Silver Gallery wire can be kiln fired in place with OneFire Sterling and other silver clay types. The bezel wire does not become brittle during kiln firing at 800C for an hour. There is no need to depletion gild or to pickle after firing. Any oxidisation can be easily removed by sanding or using the 3M 80 or 400 grit Radial Bristle Discs in a Dremel or similar rotary tool. Using a patina like Liver of Sulphur is another effective and easy way to disguise any oxidisation.
