Prometheus .999 Silver Clay allows for combinations including glass, porcelain and ceramic materials, and due to it's low firing capabilities it is also suitable for firing with sterling silver findings or wires (SV925 and higher quality recommended.

Prometheus .999 Silver Clay has a long open time when wet, captures textures and fine details very well. It is stronger and less fragile in the dry stage than most other silver clays.

This Clay holds its form well during the wet stage and allows precise cutting and piercing with minimal distortion.

Composition.
Prometheus .999 Silver Clay consists of pure silver particles, binder and water. During firing, the binder burns away and the pure silver particles solidify.  

This product is a low-fire clay that can be fired as low as 570ºC or as high as 850ºC  It is pure silver (99.9%) after firing. Can be kiln, torch and gas stove top fired fired.
We do not recommend using any .999 Fine Silver Metal Clay to make rings or other items that require high strength. Torch or gas stove top firing will not result in items that are as strong as kiln fired items.

Kiln Fire: Ramp from room temperature to 570°C - 1 hour hold

Kiln Fire: Ramp from room temperature to 700°C - 850°C 1 hour hold for high strength items 

Torch Fire: Maintain Red Glow for 5-7 minutes

Shrinkage: 12-15%

WE RECOMMEND USING THE FOLLOWING PREPARATION METHOD WHEN WORKING WITH PROMETHEUS .999 SILVER CLAY

Prometheus .999 Silver Clay has a different consistency to other fine silver metal clays and may appear cracked or even dry when it comes out of the package. It is known to have a drier and stiffer consistency but it is not old or faulty and is just the nature of this clay. All Prometheus .999 Silver Clay needs, is to be rolled out and conditioned well to allow the clay particles to fully combine and become ready to use.

After extensive testing all packs sizes of the Prometheus .999 Silver Clay, our tests concluded that overall Prometheus .999 Silver Clay does have a drier consistency and may need more “conditioning” straight out of the packet than other brands. Smaller pack sizes are drier and require more conditioning than larger packs. “Conditioning” means – rolling the clay out thinly and folding it back onto itself numerous times (either on a non-stick surface, inside a zip lock bag or between the sheets of a smooth document folder) After conditioning well, without the addition of moisture, Prometheus .999 Silver Clay becomes as pliable and workable as the other brands of .999 Silver Clay. If a softer consistency is preferred, after the conditioning process, a finger barely dipped in water and rubbed lightly over the clay surface, will bring the clay to a softer, more pliable state.

Over the past months there has been a very sharp and significant surge in all of our silver metal clay related costs. There are multiple reasons for this but the fundamental factor behind the huge surge in silver metal clay prices is the record high world spot silver price. This has resulted in all the silver based products prices skyrocketing. The steep rise in the spot silver price has been driven by global uncertainty, high industrial and investor demand, market instability, supply chain stock piling/deficit issues and increased global shipping costs.

In July 2023 Silver Spot prices were considered to be extremely high when they reached AUD$33 AUD per ounce.  However since 2023, the silver spot price has broken all previous silver records and seen even more significant price surges. In December 2025, the silver spot price reached an unprecedented AUD$100 AUD per ounce. Unfortunately as a result, Silver Metal Clay manufacturers, distributors, resellers, artists and hobbyist around the world are now facing significant, never seen before, silver metal clay price increases.  The more complex the silver fabrication, manufacturing method is, the more expensive the end product will be. Unlike traditional silver which is simply melted and milled into wire or sheets, the manufacture and fabrication of raw materials to make silver metal clay the amazing and unique product it is, is a specialized, expensive and complex process. 

Unfortunately the myriad of factors mentioned above have severely compounded the costs for manufacturers of silver metal clay around the world and regrettably we have had to adjust our prices accordingly.
